Macon Little Theatre in partnership with The Peach State Opera Company will present “A Day and Night at the Opera” on September 26, 2009. The program will consist of two operas in English, “La Serva Padrona” (The Maid Mistress) and “The Old Maid and the Thief”. Peach State Opera is a touring opera company which combines beautiful voices and excellent musicianship with “portable” staging for easy travel.
The concept of Peach State Opera began more than a year ago when Evelyn Hughes was retiring from a twenty-year career as head of the Voice and Opera Division at Georgia Perimeter College. She saw a need for young opera singers to be able to perform fully staged operas in professional settings. With the business acumen and singing background of Justin Carr, the idea began to develop. Also critical to the inception of the company were pianist Patrick Hutchison, with his many regional, national, and international credentials in music, theatre, and choreography, and Jeffrey David Gibb, an exciting young baritone with experience in opera, music theatre, and staging. The Board of Directors was assembled and the Peach State Opera was formed.
There will be two performances, one at 2:30 PM and the other at 7:30 PM. Tickets will be $15 for adults and $10 for students. There are no reserved seats and tickets may be purchased at the door. The performances are not part of the regular season and will not apply to season ticket holders. These performances will serve as a service to area opera fans and as a fund raiser for Macon Little Theatre.
