February 5-14
Directed by Chuck NeSmith
Several affluent couples gather in the posh suburban residence of a couple for a dinner party celebrating their tenth anniversary. When they arrive, they discover there are no servants, the hostess is missing, and the host – the deputy mayor of New York City – has shot himself through the earlobe. Comic complications arise when, given everyone’s upper class status, they decide they need to do everything possible to conceal the evening’s events from the local police and the media.

“Rumors”

Auditions for “Rumors” will be held at Macon Little Theatre at 7:30 pm on Monday, December 28 and Tuesday, December 29. “Rumors” will be directed by Chuck NeSmith and will run from February 5 – 14, 2010.
Needed: 5 women and 5 Men
Ages: 20’s to 50’s
Tackling this fast-paced and hectic farce presents a challenge, both for director and actors. This Neil Simon gem, …first staged in 1988, features roles for five adults men and five adult women. It is set in the tastefully renovated New York home of Charley and Myra Brock—-who we never see. The Brocks are throwing a 10th anniversary party for themselves and have invited four couples that are their closest friends. When the first couple arrives, they find Charley in an upstairs bedroom, bleeding from a gunshot wound to the ear lobe, and Myra is nowhere to be found. Couple #1 conspires to conceal this mystery from the other couples, unsuccessfully, and with the arrival of each couple, the hilarity and nonsense escalate, until the local police arrive to try, in vain, to sort it all out. The four couples include Ken Gorman, who is Charley Brock’s attorney, and Ken’s wife Chris, who is elegantly trying to kick the cigarette habit. Next to arrive are Lenny and Claire Ganz, who have had a nasty fender bender on their way to the party. Then come Ernie Cusack and his TV cooking show host-wife, Cookie, who’s having major back spasms. Last but not least is vain and insecure Cassie Cooper, who is convinced that her husband Glenn is having at least one affair. When the police officers arrive, the couple conspires in a fantastically unbelievable ruse to try to cover up for the Brocks.
